Here are the five stages of competition, for each division, during a typical school year:

• Practice Problem #1 is optional, and highly recommended, especially for new participants.  Occurs in the Fall.

• Practice Problem #2 is required for eligibility for the Qualifying Problem.  Occurs in the Fall.

• The Qualifying Problem occurs in the Winter and is the first level of competition where teams & individuals receive a ranking for their performance in their division. The top ranking Teams and individuals are invited to the State Bowl Competition.

• The NC/SC State Bowl Competition occurs in the Spring. The top ranking Teams and Individuals are invited to the International Competition.

• The International Competition occurs in early Summer, and the topic is announced in the Spring.
