Getting Started with a Team/Club

NC FPS is excited to walk you through the process of starting an FPS team/club at your school!

FIRST ~

Talk to your school administration office about their process for starting a club.

SECOND ~

✸ A teacher will likely be needed to serve as the advisor for the club.

✸ This teacher can also be the official adult coach (students who are in Senior division can be an assistant coach).

✸ Depending on the time of year, a team may be formed outside of the official school capacity, and then it can be made into an official club the following year.

THIRD ~

✸ Once a club is established, fees will need to be set and collected so that team(s) can register.

✸ Registration initiates obtaining coach materials from our Administration, and to start receiving feedback on student booklets.

✸ If total number of students is unknown at creation; it is advised to put more than 4 students on each team at the beginning of the year.

✸ Then each student would submit a few challenges and solutions so that everyone gets feedback.

FINAL ~

✸ The final deadline for team registration is in early January, which allows the addition of teams or individuals up until then.

RESOURCES ~

✸ FPSPI has lots of free resources on their website. And other things that you can pay for, like the RRR.

✸ If you want to order any additional resources, you’ll need to factor that cost into your club dues.

PLAN AHEAD ~

Be sure to let people know about State Bowl!

✸ This year’s State Bowl will be at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly March 26-28, 2026.
